Habitat Omaha’s Power Women of the Year Put a Charge in Community Effort
To honor the tremendous effort women contribute to providing safe, affordable housing and homeownership opportunities to the community it serves, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha selects its “Power Women of the Year.”
This year’s honorees, Pat Manion and Danna Plummer, will be honored at the Women’s Power Luncheon on May 19 at the Omaha Hilton.
Pat Manion
Pat Manion has been active in Omaha community causes since arriving here from Long Beach, Calif., with her husband, Dr. James Manion, in 1979. The retired ICU nurse, former U.S. Navy nurse and mother of four has been active in causes from children’s health to the arts. She has worked on boards or spearheaded philanthropic efforts.
Organizations Pat has served include Creighton University, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Omaha Symphony, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, YMCA, and Habitat for Humanity of Omaha.
At Habitat Omaha, Pat was a board member for six years, including one year as board president. Pat led the drive to establish Brew Haha as Habitat Omaha’s major fundraising event. She also served as interim CEO before present CEO Amanda Brewer was selected to fill that position.
Habitat Omaha thanks Pat for her powerful efforts to help Habitat Omaha families and to make our community a more vibrant place to live.
Danna Plummer
Danna Plummer is active in her church community and provides safe, affordable housing and homeownership opportunities in the Omaha area. She and her late husband, Chuck, became members of the Faithful Builders Coalition. It matched her ecumenical household as her church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, and Chuck’s Holy Cross Lutheran Church were coalition members.
The Faith Builders Coalition, now Faith Partners, built one Habitat Omaha house annually and introduced Danna to Habitat Omaha in 1994. She has been involved ever since, advocating for families needing affordable housing in safe neighborhoods.
Besides helping build Habitat homes, Danna has served on the Habitat Omaha Board and Homeowner Advocate, as well as the committee that selects families for Habitat Omaha homes. She is a charter member of “Habitat Friends,” and previously served as president, treasurer and membership chair. The mother of four also served as a Brew Haha chair and committee member and was named Habitat Omaha Volunteer of the Year in 2004.
Habitat Omaha thanks Danna for her powerful efforts to help Habitat Omaha families and to make our community a more vibrant place to live.
Honorary Chairs: Dan and Kelly Houghton
Women’s Power Luncheon Honorary Chairs Kelly and Dan Houghton are community focused and supportive of nonprofit activities to help families and build communities. They live in Omaha with their daughters Barrett and Ella.
Kelly Houghton is a dedicated community activist in the Omaha area. She feels it is essential to give back to her community. In addition to her outstanding work with Habitat Omaha, including serving as the Co-chair of Brew Haha, Kelly’s community outreach includes the guilds of Project Harmony and the Women’s Center for Advancement. She also co-chaired the Fontenelle Forest Feather Our Nest Event. Kelly is active in the couple’s girls’ activities, including serving as a Girl Scout leader and basketball coach and the St. Vincent de Paul School Grandparents Day Chair and committee member of the Spree committee. Before taking a more active role in her community, Kelly left a successful sales career at Ameritas.
Dan Houghton is the co-founder and CEO of Buildertrend, the leading residential construction project management software. Under his leadership, Buildertrend experienced significant growth since its founding in 2006. Buildertrend’s world-class software offering has led the construction industry, notorious for late tech adoption, into the modern age.
With a reputation as a people-driven leader and champion of strong workplace culture, Dan believes in an open-door policy and is known for his motivational speeches. Dan is heavily involved in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Omaha Community Foundation, Nebraska Tech Collaborative, Omaha Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. He is also the director and lead local investor of the Union Omaha USL Soccer Team.
