Global Impact Program
Today, 1.6 billion people around the world live in inadequate shelter. You can help change that statistic by taking action against poverty housing. One way to join the fight is to become part of our Global Impact Program by donating to our Global Impact Fund (Tithe Program) or joining a Global Village mission trip.
Global Village Mission Trips
Do you love to travel but want to be more than a tourist? Do you want to deeply and uniquely experience another country and another culture? We invite you to join a Habitat for Humanity of Omaha Global Village volunteer team and build decent, affordable shelter in a world destination alongside members of the host community. Each trip itinerary is balanced with work, rest, and cultural experiences. No construction experience is necessary. Only a positive attitude and flexibility are required. A Global Village mission trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something truly meaningful, discover a new culture and new friends, and learn some new things about yourself, too. See current opportunities below. For more information, contact Habitat Omaha’s Special Projects Manager, Janneane Gerot, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Current Opportunity: Trinidad and Tobago
April 7-15, 2018
The Housing Need in Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, attracting nearly half a million tourists each year. However, for the low-income residents of Trinidad and Tobago life is a day-to-day struggle. More than 60,000 squatters live in Trinidad and Tobago’s 300 slums without running water or basic sanitation. With housing prices increasing by more than 300% over 10 years, low-income families have lost the ability to afford housing and have been forced into makeshift shelters.
Join Our Global Village Team
Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is sending a team of 10-12 volunteers to build a home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago. As a Global Village volunteer, you’ll explore a new culture, make new friends, and help build a home for a family in need of affordable housing. While your trip may last a week, the impact of your contributions–both in the community you serve and in your own life–will endure for years to come.
The cost to join our team as we travel to Trinidad and Tobago is $2,900, which includes airfare, lodging, in-country transportation and food, as well as traveler’s medical and evacuation insurance. Ask about how we can help you fundraise the cost of your trip – it’s easier than you think!

Global Impact Fund
Because the problem of poverty housing is continuing to grow worldwide, we are committed to sending a percentage of our undesignated donations to the Habitat affiliates overseas with the greatest need and few internal resources to help. Since 1984, we have given more than a million dollars to help families living in poverty housing around the world…but we know we can do more. With your help, we can have a greater impact by increasing our investment in proven solutions that are helping families living in some of the most impoverished places on earth. Your donation to our Global Impact Fund could help support a variety of projects including: water and sanitation, land ownership rights, disaster response and mitigation, new and renovated homes, female housing inheritance rights, and housing microfinance programs.
All programs are grassroots efforts that are formed and implemented by Habitat staff and community members in each country. They are all tailored to the needs of the local population.
