Habitat Spotlight: Meet Aly

Aly (above, left) has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since 2012. She is originally from Ames, Nebraska, which is about an hour northwest of Omaha. Her reason for coming to Omaha?

“After growing up on a farm, I wanted to change things up and live in the city,” she says.

Aly is Habitat Omaha’s Office Manager. Her days always look different.

“They include everything from reconciling and approving invoices to conducting new hire orientation, supply ordering, answering questions about insurance benefits, and working with Five Nines Technology, In-Touch Teleservices, and Bishop Business in regards to our phones, computers, and copiers,” Aly explains.

Her essential office items would be her letter opener and her cell phone. Her song of the week is “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King. A fun fact about Aly: after college, she spent 2 years in Denver working as a professional matchmaker!

After joining the team, Aly was most surprised by our annual Home Builders Blitz, a weeklong event where professional builders change the face of a block by building safe, affordable housing for families in need of decent homes.

“It was amazing to see how quickly a block was transformed and all the people that came together to make it happen!” she says.

If you’re thinking of joining Habitat Omaha, Aly’s advice is this: “It takes a special person to work for a non-profit. You must truly believe in the mission and love what you do. Our staff puts so much of themselves into what they do, and the families that we serve. That’s what makes us such a strong organization!”
