Habitat Spotlight: Meet Hunter

Hunter VanDolah, a student at Creighton University, first heard about Habitat for Humanity of Omaha through fellow students and the school’s local volunteer opportunities. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Hunter came to Omaha to attend Creighton. He is currently a full-time student studying biochemistry.

“[I] hope to pursue a degree in medicine after graduating,” he says.

Hunter has been volunteering at the South 24th St. Habitat ReStore on Saturdays for the last year. “I tend to assist customers, accept and sort donations, and assist the staff with anything else they need while I’m there,” Hunter shares. “It is always a pleasure to help customers and share experiences with the staff at the ReStore!”

When he’s not volunteering with Habitat Omaha, Hunter enjoys working on personal projects.

“This summer I hope to finish a woodworking project and make a speaker out of an old suitcase.”

Hunter is a coffee enthusiast and says, “I always have a cup of black coffee in the mornings and frequently study at local coffee shops, trying different blends while I’m there.” His song of the week is “Tumbling Dice” by the Rolling Stones.

When he first started volunteering at Habitat Omaha, Hunter was most surprised by how much more Habitat Omaha does as an organization than just construction. “I always thought of Habitat in terms of building homes, but working at the ReStore showed me another way that Habitat impacts the Omaha community.”

Hunter is proud to volunteer at Habitat Omaha because “every time I volunteer I get to interact with awesome people who all share a goal of helping their local community. Habitat stands for an incredible cause, and it is a privilege to contribute through volunteering at the ReStore.”
