Kek always has a positive attitude. Even when his application to the Habitat homeownership program was denied in 2016, he kept thinking positively and worked harder. With a smile on his face, he returned to apply in 2017 and his determination and hard work paid off when his application was accepted.
Omaha native Emily N. has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since 2016, drawn in by the mission of the organization. “I believe that affordable housing is a human right and it is an honor to be working for an organization that advocates for and provides affordable housing in our community.”
This week we’re spotlighting a Habitat for Humanity of Omaha Volunteer! Erin Fulton, a Licensed Broker for the Investment Management Services Team at TD Ameritrade, first heard about Habitat Omaha through her work. A self-proclaimed military brat—her father was in the air force—Erin was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota. “We were stationed in Texas and then moved to Offutt in 1983.”
Before coming to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, Corinna was in the field of insurance for 11 years, worked as an events coordinator, and managed restaurants. “Habitat for Humanity is a beloved nonprofit in Omaha and when I had the opportunity to join this team 7 months ago, I jumped on it!” Corinna says. Born and raised in Omaha, she lived in Lincoln for several years as well.
Happiness. This is what A Pya wants for his family and what he believes homeownership will bring. Currently, this active family of eight lives in a noisy, overpriced apartment and is ready to put down their roots in a home and neighborhood of their own.
Aly has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since 2012. She is originally from Ames, Nebraska, which is about an hour northwest of Omaha. Her reason for coming to Omaha? “After growing up on a farm, I wanted to change things up and live in the city,” she says.
Jennifer was born in South Korea then moved to a small town just north of Bennington, Nebraska when she was adopted at five months old. She has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since December 2017. Jennifer’s is the first face you’ll see at Habitat Omaha’s office—right at our front desk.
Angela is one of our recent hires who has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since November 2017. Since she has lived in Omaha since she was 8 years old, she “feels native enough.”
After retiring from the for profit world, Al started volunteering at the Habitat Omaha office in the fall of 2012, and ultimately joined the organization as Chief Financial Officer in the spring of 2013. Al is originally from Columbus, NE. He came to Omaha after graduating from college in search of career opportunities.
Trish has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha for 20 years. Originally from David City, Nebraska, she came to the “Big O” to go to business school. “I graduated, worked, moved away, got a 4 year degree and came back to Omaha,” she says.
Candyce views homeownership as a chance to prove her independence. As a single mother of two young children, she has watched her mother, father and brother accomplish various goals. Now, she feels it’s her time to shine.
Carly started at Habitat for Humanity of Omaha as an AmeriCorps service member in the Volunteer Services department. She was hired as a full-time staff member in the summer of 2017. She grew up in David City, NE which is an hour west of Omaha, and moved here for college at UNO.
Ken has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha for 8 years. He grew up in Beatrice, Nebraska, 30 miles south of Lincoln. He moved to Omaha with Gallup back in 2003. Ken is the COO at Habitat Omaha, which means no day is like another
Emily has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha just over 4 months. She is an Omaha native and a Truman State University graduate. “After working at a nonprofit for 5 years in Kansas City and wrapping up my MPA at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, I decided to make my way back home to Omaha. Teatime with Grandma Kak was a pretty big draw!”
