‘One of the best days’

December 21 will be a day Abdallah and Sadiya will always remember. After months of eagerly waiting, the couple will finally sign their mortgage documents and receive the keys to their very first home. Their family will move in just in time for the holidays.

“It will be one of the best days,” Abdallah said.

Abdallah and Sadiya are from North Sudan. They heard about our Homeownership Program through a friend, who is a current Habitat Omaha homeowner. After learning they could partner with Habitat Omaha to purchase a house, they decided to apply so their three children could have a spacious and stable place to call home.

“We needed a house,” Abdallah said. “We need a bigger place to live.”

Abdallah, Sadiya and their children are currently living in a two-bedroom apartment. They will be purchasing a newly built five-bedroom house. Our Pro Build partners Callaway Homes and C2 Building Company began construction in August 2020 and completed the home in November.

Abdallah said a house will be much more accessible than an apartment, making it easier for them to carry their two children who have disabilities in and out of their house. He’s looking forward to spending quality time with his family, especially outdoors.

“Home means having my own property and being responsible,” he said. “I will be proud of it.”
