When George joined the “Habitat club” at Creighton Prep, he thought it could be fun working with friends and power tools. He didn’t necessarily think it would be something that would stay with him.
Two years and five builds later, he sees it differently.
A few months ago, George was on a ladder as a volunteer, working on the ceiling when he looked over at the constructed Habitat house next door, and saw someone he recognized.
It was a classmate.
That’s when it hit him how close to home this work really is.
“We’re building the place where someone studies for their ACT, where a family eats dinner every night, and where a kid from my school can walk through the door and just be at home.”
Thank you to George and all the volunteers who make our work possible. If you’d like to volunteer, we’d love to have you! Learn more about volunteering with Habitat Omaha, or you can sign up for our next Rock the Block on May 2 in Blair.
