Winter Volunteer Opportunities

What to expect

Construction volunteers should arrive at Bluestem and be prepared for a day of work outdoors. As the weather gets colder, dressing accordingly will help you to stay warm and give your all to the project at hand. Warm gloves, hats, and coats are recommended to wear as well as warm socks and shoes. Check the weather before arriving to make sure you are prepared and warm for the day!

To make sure our volunteers stay safe and comfortable, there will be hand warmers provided if necessary and heaters inside garages and in the volunteer center. Both great places for our volunteers to warm up on chilly days!

Do volunteers need to bring anything?

Besides an amazing attitude, volunteers do not need to bring anything with them. They are welcome to bring their own tool belts or hand tools if preferred, but all tools and tool belts will be provided on site.

What if it’s snowing or too cold?

In the case that it is too snowy or there is freezing temperatures, Habitat will send out an email and text to volunteers one to two hours before expected arrival notifying them of the change in plans. Volunteers may be asked to reschedule their volunteer slot, cancel the day, or be moved to the warehouse or another location. Make sure to look for texts and emails when the weather is cold, or snow is expected.
