Mayor John Ewing Jr. and Dr. Viv Ewing are longtime Omaha leaders and advocates with deep roots in the community. Both were born and raised in North Omaha and have dedicated their careers to public service, leadership and creating opportunities for others.

Mayor Ewing is a graduate of Northwest High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Business and Urban Studies. He served 25 years with the Omaha Police Department, retiring as deputy chief, before serving 18 years as Douglas County Treasurer. On June 9, 2025, he became Omaha’s 52nd mayor. His personal experience growing up in North Omaha—including his family’s first home purchase when he was 15—shaped his understanding of the transformative power of affordable homeownership.

Dr. Viv Ewing is an accomplished executive, entrepreneur, author, speaker and community advocate. She holds degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and has held leadership roles across the corporate, nonprofit and community sectors. Her career includes service with organizations such as OPPD, ConAgra Foods, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army, as well as founding Life Development International. She is passionate about mentorship, personal development and empowering individuals and communities to thrive.

Together, Mayor Ewing and Dr. Ewing have built a life centered on family, faith, public service and a commitment to making Omaha a stronger, more equitable community.
