When Dan and Annie needed help with their 123-year-old home in Blair, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha answered the call.
Dan served our country in the Army. Now it was our turn to serve him and his family.
For over 50 years, Dan and Annie filled their home with love, raising five children of their own and 25 foster children! But, houses age, and even the strongest foundations need reinforcement from time to time.
First, we fixed the driveway and added a coat of paint to the front porch and fence. Then, we noticed the roof needed work, and Dan and Annie, now in their 80s, could benefit from a walk-in tub.
This is what our Veterans Home Repair Program is all about: helping veterans stay in their homes safely, with dignity and independence.
Because sometimes the best way to say “thank you for your service” is with a hammer and nails.
