2024 Real Property Valuation Protest

June 1, 2024

Protest Your Property Valuation

With the super-hot home market, it is likely you are seeing an increase in your mortgage payments because the value of your home has increased. Why? Higher valuation of your property changes the amount of property taxes you owe, increasing your mortgage payment. However, you can do something about it. You can protest your valuation June 1–30. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Step 1: search your property’s value and taxes:

PROTEST TIP:  Did you know you can submit photos of your home when protesting your valuation? Take plenty of photos of your old kitchen and the dated bathroom that needs remodeling. These photos could help prove the value of your home and lower your property taxes.

Step 2: protest your valuation:

You can file your protest by mail, drop it off or online (not available in all counties.) Protesters have the responsibility of presenting relevant evidence as to why the assessed value of the protested property should be adjusted.

Submit your protest as soon as possible.

All protests must be received by June 30 (6 p.m. in person, 11:59 p.m. online). If you are mailing your protest form, it must be postmarked by June 30.
