Habitat Spotlight: Meet Kristin

Kristin Larsen is a Project Engineer for The Weitz Company. This Builders Blitz volunteer first learned about Habitat for Humanity of Omaha in high school but didn’t become involved with the organization until she started working for Weitz and got involved with Habitat Omaha’s Builders Blitz.

Not an Omaha native, Kristin originally hails from Minnesota and attended Iowa State. She moved to Omaha three years ago for work.

“I have helped manage The Weitz Company’s house for the Builders Blitz the last three years,” Kristin says. “I am in charge of finding the subcontractors to help us build the house and then managing the day-to-day work on the Blitz. I help coordinate everybody’s work and make sure all the materials are on site and ready to go.”

When she’s not working hard on the construction site, Kristin enjoys playing and coaching volleyball year round.

“I love it and I love getting to work with kids!” she says.

She gets her weekly coffee fix from Scooters and is currently listening to Darius Rucker’s “For the First Time.”

Being a homeowner herself, Kristin understands the importance of having a safe, stable place to call your own.

“I love owning my own home. It means independence and growing up to me. It is a big responsibility to own and keep up a house and it makes me feel proud to be able to host family and friends in my own home.”

Kristin was surprised to learn that just about anyone can volunteer with Habitat Omaha.

“I was always nervous to sign up because I don’t have a lot of skills with equipment and tools but it is such a good place to learn!” she says.
