Habitat Spotlight: Meet Emily N.

Omaha native Emily N. (above, right) has been with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha since 2016, drawn in by the mission of the organization.

“I believe that affordable housing is a human right and it is an honor to be working for an organization that advocates for and provides affordable housing in our community,” Emily says.

As the Program Director, Emily is responsible for oversight of the Homeownership Program as well as the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

“No day is the same!” she says. “I bounce from program quality management to working on the mortgage compliance and exciting pilots we are working on at Habitat.”

Emily is a firm believer in fresh flowers as an essential for work and the key to having a friendly and welcoming office. Emily’s fun fact is that she once swam 13 miles around a lake! As for her music preference, anything country goes.

Emily is a professional coffee drinker. She wouldn’t say how many cups she goes through a day, simply leaving it at “I live on coffee.”

Homeownership to Emily means “having stability in one’s life. When one is able to find a home they can live in forever, that worry about where their family will sleep can disappear and the positive outcomes of life start to unfold. Data shows us that health, finance and education indicators all improve once housing is established.”

When she first started at Habitat Omaha, Emily was surprised by “how much work goes into the mortgage lending.” She is proud to work at Habitat Omaha because “it’s a great team of committed individuals all striving to perform their very best for the betterment of our community members.”
