For Britt, an Omaha native and single mother of two girls, having an affordable home is top priority. She came to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha after looking to buy a home for her family in the open market. Every home she viewed was either out of her price range or required a lot of repairs. “I felt that it (Habitat Omaha’s Homeownership Program) was a more affordable way to get my home,” she said.
Having her first daughter at age 19 and raising her on her own has made Britt an exceptionally strong young woman. Thankfully, she has always been surrounded by strong female role models. Her mother, Linda, and grandmother continue to be a support system for her and the girls. In fact, Linda is Britt’s sweat equity helper and will help her reach her goal of 250 hours in order to complete Habitat Omaha’s Homeownership Program.
Britt’s daughters are her inspiration for working so hard. Kamira, 13, enjoys reading and has always been a grandma’s girl – she loves spending every Wednesday with Linda. Raelynn, 6, is definitely an outdoorsy girl who looks for any chance to play outside. They are all looking forward to having their own space. Currently Britt and the girls are living in a small two-bedroom apartment with no outdoor space for the girls to play.
When Britt thinks about her future home, she’s most excited about hosting family gatherings and having family and friends over for holidays.
