  • Support the ROAD to Housing Act

The Senate will soon consider the ROAD to Housing Act, legislation designed to boost housing supply, reduce regulatory barriers, and make homeownership more attainable for Americans.

    This legislation would:

    • Increase the supply of affordable homes

    • Expand access to homeownership

    • Strengthen long-term housing stability for homeowners

Passing the ROAD to Housing Act will help lower housing costs, expand opportunities for families, and create more secure communities. Your voice can help move this legislation forward.

  • Why Your Voice Matters

Housing affordability is a growing challenge for many families across Nebraska. Supporting policies that expand housing supply and reduce barriers to homeownership can help ensure more families have the opportunity to build stability and generational wealth.

By contacting your Senators, you help demonstrate that affordable housing is a priority for your community. Constituent calls are one of the most effective ways elected officials understand what matters most to the people they represent.

  • What to Say When You Call

When you call your Senator’s office, you’ll likely speak with a staff member who tracks constituent opinions. Your call can be brief — even a minute or two makes an impact.

    Here’s a simple outline:

    1. Introduce yourself and share where you live (Omaha, Bellevue, etc.).

    2. Explain why affordable housing matters to you in one or two sentences (for example: homes in my neighborhood are getting more expensive, or young families are being priced out).

    3. Ask the Senator to support the ROAD to Housing Act.

    4. Share why you support the legislation, such as increasing housing supply or expanding homeownership opportunities.

    5. Close by saying you’ll be following the issue and look forward to hearing how the Senator plans to vote.

Why is Affordable Housing Important?

We’re all human, and we all deserve the chance to grow up with a safe and stable place to live. A home to love and to make our own. For many, their Habitat homes are the first time they’ve had their own bedrooms, with room to room and play.  Owning a home is a source of pride and empowerment for the entire family. Let’s bring that sense of stability that owning a home offers within reach for more families in Omaha.

Growing up in a Habitat Home
  • Health

Poor housing conditions can have a harmful effect on health, particularly for children. However, children often see improvements in conditions like asthma and allergies after moving into Habitat for Humanity homes.

  • TRANSPORTATION

When people have access to good, affordable housing close to their workplace, it eases the strain on our transportation system. This leads to less traffic congestion and helps cut down on commuting costs.

  • ECONOMIC GROWTH

A thriving housing market draws in businesses that need diverse housing choices for their workforce.

  • ENVIRONMENT

The energy-efficient homes that Habitat builds are cheaper for homeowners to maintain, meaning money can be spent on other necessities.
