Frank and his sister in front of his home.
Whether hanging dry wall while stationed in Alaska or remodeling homes in Omaha, Frank, a former U.S. Army carpenter, knew all the tricks of his trade.
After three years of military service, the veteran returned home to live in the house his mother had purchased in 1945. While continuing his carpentry work, Frank began to notice a growing list of repairs needed on his own home.
Then came a series of setbacks. A serious fall off a ladder and battle with prostate cancer left him physically and financially unable to keep up with the repairs. The list continued to grow…
Frank’s home needed major repairs. Everything from a broken HVAC system and backed up sewer line to asbestos siding, a leaky roof and failing gutters.
That’s when Frank realized he needed help.
After learning about the Home Repair Program through his sister’s nephew, Frank applied and hoped Habitat for Humanity of Omaha might be able to help him cross off the essential repairs on the list.
The Home Depot Foundation was able to sponsor Frank’s home repair to replace the furnace, roof, gutters, and sewer line and partially replace his asbestos siding, making it possible for him to secure home insurance coverage.
“I’m not used to things going right for me” Frank said.
Today, Frank is grateful to be crossing off long-overdue repairs and experiencing the comfort of a warm, dry home that he can enjoy for years to come.
