Volunteer spotlight: Meet Amber

Volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity build site is one of Amber Minick’s bucket list items. In October, she decided to reach out to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha to ask about volunteer opportunities.

“It would be neat to help others build a home,” Amber said. “I would love to be a part of it.”

At the time, Habitat Omaha only had volunteer opportunities available at our two Habitat ReStore locations. When Marlee Huen, Senior Volunteer Coordinator, found out Amber was a photographer, she asked if she’d be interested in taking photos of items for the e-Store.

“I told Marlee that I’d love to do anything that needed to be done,” Amber said.

Now, Amber regularly volunteers at the West Maple Habitat ReStore. She takes photos, organizes items on the shelves and helps customers shopping in the store.

“I love being able to help others and seeing them happy,” she said. “I enjoy everything I do at Restore, and I love the staff. I feel at home here.”

Our Habitat ReStore team is thankful for Amber’s help. By taking photos of items in stock, she’s helping customers find what they need when shopping online.

“Amber is such a wonderful addition to the ReStore. She has such a positive attitude, is always willing to help out and is truly an ambassador for Habitat Omaha,” Marlee said. “Volunteers like Amber help our stores run smoother and are such a treasure during these times.”

With construction volunteer opportunities now open, Amber is excited to cross that item off her bucket list soon and plans to continue volunteering with Habitat Omaha.

“My parents would restore houses, so I got to knock down walls and paint when I was young, but I didn’t get to do any of the big stuff,” she said. “I am looking forward to working on a Habitat house in the future.”
