Les (above, left) has been here at Habitat for Humanity of Omaha for three years. He is not an Omaha native but was brought to the city by family.
“I have a family member [who] is a Habitat homeowner and while building their home I saw the pride and feeling of accomplishment this gave them. I could see Habitat does make a difference in families’ lives and I wanted to be part of helping families see their dreams of homeownership fulfilled.”
Les is the Accounts Payable and Benefits Clerk at Habitat Omaha. His day involves tasks like answering vendor questions, processing payroll, real estate taxes, and tracking Habitat Omaha properties.
“My day varies but usually consists of verifying and coding invoices for payment,” Les says. “I’m printing checks, communicating with vendors or processing biweekly payroll—plus reports as needed and whatever else that comes up.”
He shared that his essential work item is his computer, saying, “I would be lost without [it].”
Les is a “two large cups of coffee a day” kind of guy. A fun fact about him is that he once won an online Texas Hold’em tournament! His song of the week is “Home” by Phillip Phillips.
Les believes that homeownership provides a safe haven for families. When he first started at Habitat Omaha, he was surprised by the dedication of everyone involved in Habitat Omaha’s mission for decent, affordable housing.
Les is proud to work at Habitat Omaha because “we help families and transform neighborhoods.”
