FAQ: Group Volunteers

Construction Build Site Group Volunteer Info:
  • Build sites are limited to 10 people.
  • We can split larger groups to multiple sites if needed. (Corporate and Community Partners Only)
  • Habitat will provide all tools, training and safety equipment needed for the day.
  • Please bring your own lunch and water bottle.
  • All volunteers must be 16 years old to work on a build (with restrictions on ladders and power tool usage for those 16-18).
  • We host build teams year-round, Wednesday through Saturday.
  • We typically work outside year-round; please dress for the current weather conditions. Some work may be done indoors if necessary.
  • Volunteer shifts start at 8:00 a.m. and wrap up around 3:00 p.m. Volunteers must be present for the entire duration.
ReStore Group Volunteer Info:

The ReStore is a vital part of our mission where we take donations of lightly used tools, hardware and other home goods and sell them in order to raise money for our mission.

  • The ReStore West can generally host groups of up to 10, with potential to accommodate more. The ReStore South location can generally accommodate groups up to five.
  • ReStore opportunities are more flexible than traditional construction shifts. Your group is welcome to volunteer in a shift of at least 3 hours, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., at either of our Habitat ReStore locations:
  • The Habitat ReStore hosts volunteers Monday through Saturday year-round.
  • All volunteers in your group must be at least 14 years old to work in the ReStore.
Important Group Volunteering Info:
  • If you are a Habitat Corporate Partner or Faith Partner, your group can expect to be placed at a build site together. Otherwise, your group will likely not have your own build site and will be working alongside other volunteers/companies.
  • Reservations can be made up to 3 months in advance for groups who are not a part of our Corporate of Faith Partnership programs.
  • High school students and others from educational clubs are welcome as long as age requirements and expectations for behavior are met.
  • Group volunteer shifts fill up quickly (especially Fridays and Saturdays).

Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteers are the backbone of the work we do at Habitat Omaha.

Sonja, a dedicated volunteer for more than 12 years, has a long history of service with other organizations in addition to Habitat for Humanity. She is passionate about Habitat’s work because her family has received home repairs and seen the impact our work has on families firsthand. Sonja loves her volunteer experience so much she passed it on to her son.
