Why we build
When affordable housing is out of reach for so many families, it creates instability in our communities, weakens our economy, and even impacts the health and educational success of our neighbors.
Through affordable homeownership families can:
- Provide stability for their children
- Gain improved health, physical safety and security
- Increase educational and job prospects
- Engage in their communities
To address the need for quality housing in our community, Habitat Omaha builds and renovates homes, repairs existing houses, takes down blighted structures and advocates for better laws and systems to make homeownership affordable. We work with families to help them acquire the access, skills and financial education necessary to become successful homeowners.
Since 1984, Habitat Omaha has partnered with thousands of families and individuals in our community to provide affordable homeownership and home improvement opportunities. Tens of thousands of donors and volunteers have worked together with future homeowners to make these opportunities a reality, building stronger neighborhoods and effecting measurable change in the community.

Our vision of a world where everyone has a safe place to live remains in focus because of our donors’ generous support. In 2022, our supporters took action to create quality, affordable housing, helping our community grow stronger, block by block.

- 65 homeownership opportunities
- 252 home repairs completed
- 30+ acres purchased for future homes
- 15 home repairs for veterans
- 41,653 volunteer hours served
