Habitat Spotlight: Meet Sam

Sam Howe is a project engineer with MCL Construction. He first came in contact with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha as a volunteer while he was a student at University of Nebraska at Omaha. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Sam has resided in Papillion since he was 5 years old, when his dad accepted a position here in Omaha.

“My first time volunteering with Habitat was back in school where we helped for a few days installing sheathing, siding, and other odds and ends. I also volunteered on the Blitz Build with my previous company a few years ago. Last year I ran the Blitz Build for MCL and will be doing so again this year.”

When he isn’t working hard, Sam is a complete sports fanatic—both as a spectator and athlete. He particularly enjoys golf. Sam’s song of the week is “Toes” by Zac Brown Band.

“Habitat works to help families gain the opportunity to become homeowners and create a better life for their families,” says Sam. It is a mission that he is thankful to be a part of.

“I recently became a homeowner and it’s a great feeling of accomplishment taking that step in life. I think about those families in this world that are not as fortunate as myself and many others and it really makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have a place to call home.”

Sam shares that his experience with Habitat Omaha has been eye opening; seeing the amount of support the organization receives has been his biggest surprise.

“It was amazing to see the people of this city and Habitat come together for such a great cause,” he says.

Sam is proud to volunteer at Habitat Omaha because “it gives the families in need the opportunity for a better life through homeownership. Having a helping hand in that and seeing the excitement in the family’s eyes is a humbling experience.”
