After a fatal natural gas explosion in Benson destroyed multiple homes and took the life of 30-year-old property inspector Clara Bender in 2016, we have been given a chance to help rebuild. Three homes slated for demolition were donated to Habitat Omaha as homeowners tried “to make a positive out of a tragic situation,” said one homeowner, Jeff Leise.
The lots have since been cleared and construction will begin during our 2017 Fall Framing Frenzy in September. In preparation for this event, volunteers will help build walls during Benson First Friday events this summer.
We’d love to have you stop by to check out the progress and find out how to get involved!
